For years, I used ASUS routers with custom WRT firmware, tweaking settings to get the most out of my network. As my needs grew, I wanted a better way to segment my network — keeping my business, home, guest, and IoT devices separate for both security and ease of management.
At first, I tried putting my IoT devices on a guest network, but managing them became a hassle. I also needed to share a printer with my business network while keeping everything else locked down. That's when I discovered UniFi hardware. It looked like the perfect solution, but it introduced a lot of new concepts I wasn't familiar with — especially when it came to firewall rules.
After watching countless YouTube videos, reading forum posts, and experimenting with configurations, I finally got my network set up the way I wanted: VLANs properly segmented, security in place, and just the right level of cross-network access where needed. But along the way, I realized something — anyone moving from an all-in-one router to a UniFi system would have to go through the same steep learning curve.
That's why I built Rapid Deployment for UniFi. My goal is to make it quick and easy to configure a UniFi Cloud Gateway using best practices for firewall rules and groups — without having to spend hours (or days) figuring it all out from scratch. I hope this saves you time and helps you get the most out of your network, just like it did for me.
